Stallings Classroom Snapshot (Stalling classroom observation system)

Definition
‘The Stallings classroom observation system, also known as the Stallings classroom snapshot, is a questionnaire and protocol for timed observations that produce quantitative data about interactions of teachers and students in classrooms’ (World Bank, 2017b: 1).

This model of classroom observation was developed in the 1970s by Jane Stallings to observe and measure use of classroom time in the United States (RTI International, 2016). The model focuses on teacher, student, and classroom level interactions. It can be implemented in any school setting and for any subject being taught.  The model classifies each activity observed as well as its intended audience. Data is captured at regular intervals, usually every 2 to 5 minutes (RTI International, 2016).
