LGBTIQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer. Although UNESCO’s documents commonly employ the term LGBTIQ, it is of utmost importance to acknowledge the existence of other evolving acronyms, such as LGBTIQA+. The latter stands for ‘Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, Asexual and many other terms (such as non-binary and pansexual) that people use to describe their experiences of their gender, sexuality, and physiological sex characteristics’ (La Trobe University, 2019).
